THE ORIOLE is a two-story country home in Wittenberg, Wisconsin: 2,420 square feet on the main level and another 1,200 upstairs, all riding on a heated concrete slab. We carried it from first sketch through a complete bid set, coordinating every trade from these drawings: excavation, well and septic, electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, concrete.
The Plan.
Living, dining, and kitchen share the main level with the master suite and an office; two more bedrooms take the upper floor. A three-car garage carries the working end of the house.
Vertically Integrated.
The Oriole shows the full Usonia House design-build method. One studio carried the drawings, the bids, and the site coordination, with the owner in the loop and the budget in plain view the whole way.
Construction.
A five-inch heated concrete slab with thickened grade beams carries the house, warm floors and no wasted foundation. Framing and envelope details were picked to outperform conventional assemblies at a lower in-place cost.
