The Flight Pavilion, holding the square.

THE FLIGHT PAVILION is a concept shade structure for a public square: thin steel trusses and stretched mesh planes that bank and soar like wings over the plaza. It weighs almost nothing, touches the ground in only a few places, and turns a hard urban square into a place worth staying.

The Structure.

Lightweight trusses do all the work. The mesh surfaces catch sun and cast moving shade, and the assembly reads differently from every angle: level flight from one side, a dive from the other.

Underneath.

Shade, seating steps, and a stage-like ground plane. A pavilion earns its keep by what happens under it.
