THE SCHULKE is a lakeside home on Crooked Lake near Crivitz, Wisconsin, and it shows how a commission starts here: not with one answer, with alternatives. We developed the home in two complete concept schemes so the owners could compare two futures, then carried the selected scheme into a full construction set: 1,240 square feet on the main level, 855 upstairs, on a heated slab facing the water.
Scheme One.
A composed, gabled scheme that holds the street with a calm front and opens up generously to the back yard.
Scheme Two.
The same program with bolder massing, trading formality for drama in the section and the roofline.
The Lake Side.
The main level opens to a covered lakeside patio, so the living spaces, kitchen, and water read as one room in summer.
The Method.
Concept alternatives are a normal part of every commission. The design is made for you and with you, and the drawings stay ahead of the decisions.
